First Impressions

As we have all heard before, “first impressions are important”. It takes seconds for the human mind to make that first impression, whether it is a good or bad one.

We can have first impressions about literally everything, from a person, to a product, a design, or even a message. For example, you could be a very wealthy and clever individual, but if you dress in old clothes, look scruffy and have a tired look, you will not give people that good first impression, and these individuals may associate you with negative thoughts and not want to speak to you or do business with you. This sounds shallow minded, but we all know this is how our brains work. This individual may not have that chance to give that a good impression, as the saying goes, “first impression counts”.

From a designer’s perspective, first impressions are made visually. This visual appearance dictates the impression and perception of your business. If a consumer or potential business partner has a first bad impression of you, then that consumer may not buy your product or the business partner may not want to work with you without even giving you the second chance. You can go as far and say the first impression can seal the deal for a business. As said earlier, it takes seconds for an individual to make that decision.

For the designer, the first impression comes from a visual impression. This can be in a number of ways, some of these are; website design, logo designs, use of colours, wording or advertisement to name just a few.
In terms of website design, the designer would have to create a layout that the end user can scroll through the website with ease, and a website that has flow. There is nothing more annoying than browsing a website with a bad design and layout, were your eyes are confused were to look and what to read in what order. This can make the user click off your website and could result in loss of business.

So as a whole, a good first impression does count and is very important to designers. First impressions can be that ‘make or break’ in a deal, for repeat business, to associate your business with positive associations and to make your business look professional.

At Final Print UK, we pride ourselves in design; this is one of our specialties. We take time in design but use this time effectively. For more information of our design, please visit our website.
